Until his elevation, Ajaero was the Deputy President of the NLC and General Secretary of the Nigerian Union of Electricity Employees. He was unanimously elected unopposed as the NLC President at the just-concluded 13th National Delegates’ Conference of the Labour movement.

The NLC in a communiqué issued at its recent virtual National Executive Meeting by the president, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, stated that the demand was consequent on the incontrovertible evidence that the power sector privatisation has failed to achieve any of its objectives, which include improving the quality and quantity of electricity supply to Nigerians, shedding of power sector funding from the government and increasing revenue from power sector investment to the coffers of government.

Wabba said: “Up till now, government is still dragging its feet on talks about the minimum wage; the tripartite structure has not been put in place.”
He said the speculation that talk on minimum wage had collapsed was misleading, adding that the talk had not even started.

“All monies to be spent should be transparently budget for, including the so-called security vote, so that it can be tracked, to prevent corruption.”
Also, Wabba called for the removal of the immunity clause from the constitution to enable the president, his vice, governors and their deputies to be prosecuted for a criminal offence

“In the light of the sensitive nature of the subject matter, this story is not only alarmist, it constitutes an unnecessary overheating of the polity.
“To the best of our knowledge, government accepted to set up two committees as a result of the major protest by labour, following the increase in the pump price of petroleum products
