Diego Simeone looks set to take his reign at Atletico Madrid past the 10-year mark after entering “advanced talks” on a contract extension.
The Argentine has proved hugely successful in the Spanish capital after arriving in December 2011.
And according to reports in Spain, he is closing in on a new deal that will extend his contract beyond its current expiry in June 2020.
Radio Marca report Simeone is close to agreeing terms which would make him the highest-paid person at the club, ahead of Antoine Grizemann.
The 48-year-old has won seven major honours in seven years, including two Europa League titles and La Liga in 2014.
He took Atletico to the final of the Champions League twice, where they were beaten on both occasions by fierce rivals Real Madrid.
This year Atletico find themselves in the thick of the title race in Spain.
They have 23 points from their opening 12 games and sit third, a point behind leaders Barcelona.
