Gov. Kashim Shettima of Borno on Sunday expressed grief over the death of Alhaji Ahmed Zannah, the senator representing Borno Central at the National Assembly.
Shettima in a statement issued on Sunday in
Maiduguri by Malam Isa Gusau, the Special Adviser to Govenor on Communication, described the death of Zannah as painful.
“His death is a painful exit of one who passionately stood in defence of the state and its people.
“Especially in the darkest days of insurgency attacks all over the state,” Shettima said.
He said that the late Senator fought for the emancipation of his people throughout his tenure at the National Assembly.
`He added:“ At every point there were attacks or potential threats to communities, Zannah was always the first to come in public, demanding the rights of the masses, security of their lives and freedom.
“His consistency must have played a key role in accelerating counter insurgency operations in Borno and the North-East in general.
“He even encouraged many into getting involved in different forms of craftsmanship, producing marketable products as self-employed citizens while taking refuge with him.
“He died at a time Borno needed people like him in an effort to overcome the security challenges in the state and sustain reconstruction processes being enforced by the state government.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Zannah was re-elected at the March 28, National Assembly election on the platform of APC.
He was first elected into the senate in 2011 on the platform of the PDP, and later defected to APC.
Zannah died on Saturday in Abuja at the age of 60.(NAN)
