After weeks of debate, the Senate on Tuesday passed the Bill on the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, Delta State Establishment, etc Bill 2014 into law.
The apex legislative chamber also passed the National Health Bill into law.
These were some of the high points of the proceedings of the Senate Tuesday at its plenary session.
The upper chamber of the National Assembly equally received the Report of the Conference Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, (as amended) Bill 2014.
The Senate similarly received the Report of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative on the Fiscal Allocation and Statutory Disbursement Audit 2007-2011 and Solid Minerals 2011 in accordance with section 4(3) of the NEITI Act 2007.
The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the plenary session, harped on the pertinent need for the Senate to pass some very important bills like the Petroleum Industry Bill and review of the constitution before the current legislative session winds down.
Also on Tuesday, the Senate passed three bills: the Equipment Leasing Bill, the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency Act 2003 Amendment Bill and the National Directorate of Employment Act Cap N28 Amendment Bill-for the first reading.
The Bill for an Act to repeal the Insurance Brokers Act 2003 to re-enact a new one and the Electoral Act 2010 Amendment Bill were however stood down for next parliamentary days.
