Former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, has described as untrue the allegation by the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state that the Labour Party was responsible for the Ogbomoso attack where supporters of both parties clashed.
Speaking through his Director of Public Affairs, Oludare Ogunlana, Alao-Akala said he stood his earlier ground that it was the “APC thugs that attacked the LP convoy in Ogbomoso”.
He confirmed that the LP got clearance from the Police and its itinerary was approved by all security agencies for the Ogbomoso campaign.
The APC, he observed, violated the security arrangement by organising a campaign same time in the same zone.
His words: “They deliberately came to Ogbomoso to foment trouble despite the fact that they were not cleared by the security agencies to campaign around the area during that period.
“It was also clear that the incumbent administration lied to the Police authority that three people died and scores wounded. This prompted the Commissioner of Police to order that the matter be transferred to Ibadan Police Headquarters
“The APC leadership should be ashamed of themselves because the Police Authority later realized that they lied on all front by raising frivolous petitions without any iota of truth.
“The state knows better that (Governor Abiola) Ajimobi-led government has been the one using members of the NURTW (National Union of Road Transport Workers) to cause trouble and torment people all over the state in order to coerce people to vote for APC.”
Alao-Akala claimed that the APC thugs were responsible for the attack and killing at Accord Party peaceful rally in Ibadan weeks ago.
Reminding the people about the violent crisis between two APC House of Representatives’ aspirants for Akinyele/Lagelu where scores of people were killed, he alleged: “It was this same APC thugs who unleashed terror on LP members during the Space FM gubernatorial debate where they used guns and other deadly weapons freely. The records are there because men of the SSS arrested some of them and most of them belong to NURTW under the command of its chairman, Alhaji Taofeek Oyerinde Fele.”
Alao-Akala also linked the present government to the Soka incident, advising the Ajimobi administration against pointing accusing finger to Labour Party and himself.
“He should come out clean as the chief security officer of the state by disbanding the militant wing of the Oyo State APC, which is headed by Alhaji Fele,” he noted.
He, however, urged all peace loving people of Oyo State not to fall for the antics of the APC in Oyo State, urging them to come out en mass and reject the greedy government with their thumbs on April.
