The Police Command in Plateau, has arrested Peter Ashom, 80, for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl in the state.

Julius Alawari, the Commissioner of Police in the state disclosed this to newsmen on Thursday in Jos.

”On October 9, we received information that one Peter Ashom, 80, lured an 11-year-old girl into his room and had carnal knowledge of her.

”He did that under the pretence of sending her on errands anytime she goes to sell groundnuts to him.

”He threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

”The case is still under investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of due investigation,” he said.

Alawari also said that the command had arrested one Elijah Anthony, 17, for allegedly kidnapping and killing a five-year-old in Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area of the state.

He explained that immediately the incident was reported to its Anti-Kidnapping Unit on October 13, its men swung into action and the suspect was arrested.

”On October 13, at about 9a.m. our Anti-kidnapping unit, received a phone call that one Dawon Pam, 5, was missing and that all search throughout the night proved abortive.

”But that in the morning of October 14, at about 5:40a.m., a pair of shoes belonging to the victim was found close to a handwritten note demanding a ransom of N5 million.

”Upon receipt of the report, our men commenced investigation and on October 23, we arrested the suspect.

”Upon interrogation, the teenager admitted and confessed to have conspired with one Malik of no fixed address and kidnapped the victim from his father’s compound to an uncompleted building in the community.

”He also confessed that after collecting N400,000 from the victim’s parents, his accomplice, Malik, who is now at large, strangled the victim while he held his hands and legs.

”They took the body and dumped it in a swampy place close to the uncompleted building,” he said.

The commissioner added that the command arrested 37 other suspects, recovered 18 different locally made rifles and 23 ammunition for computing various offences between October 1 to date.

He said that all suspects would be charged to court after investigations.
