The rescheduled meeting between President Goodluck Jonathan and governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party has been cancelled.
Though the development has not been made official, The Eagle Online learnt that the meeting, scheduled for Tuesday night at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, has been put off.
Most of the governors scheduled to attend the meeting were already in Abuja as at Tuesday evening.
A source, however, told The Eagle Online that it was possible the meeting was cancelled because some of the governors who have aligned with the PDP faction headed by Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, have decided to boycott the meeting.
The governors said they would not attend the meeting except former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was invited, a demand spurned by the Presidency.
The thinking in the Villa was that if the governors in the opposing camp would not attend the meeting, then there would be no one to negotiate with.
The initial reconciliation meeting was held on Sunday night.
Sixteen governors attended the meeting.
It was deadlocked as no compromise could be obtained.
Seven governors elected on the platform of the PDP on Saturday, in alliance with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, had formed a faction, claiming they were deliberately shortchanged at the Special National Convention of the party.
They said most of the candidates opposed to the current leadership of the party were disqualified during the convention, leaving room for those in support of President Jonathan and the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, to have a field day.
