The Peoples Democratic Party has confirmed the cancellation of the governorship primaries for Ogun State.
As earlier reported by The Eagle Online, the party took the decision at a meeting of its National Working Committee with stakeholders of the party from Ogun State.
The meeting took place on Sunday.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, on Monday, the PDP reiterated its stand on the election.
The short statement reads: “The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has cancelled the conduct of the Governorship Primary election in Ogun state.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the NWC hereby states that it did not authorize any governorship primary in Ogun state. Consequently, any such exercise held in Ogun state is hereby declared null and void and of no effect.
“A new date will be communicated for the primaries.”
Sources told The Eagle Online that delegates to the governorship primaries had already gathered in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, for the primaries holding in other states on Monday.
