Operatives of the Bauchi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have demanded for 26 months promotion salary arrears from the management of the Corps.
This was contained in an appeal to the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, and the Commandant General of the Corps, Muhammadu Gana, made available to The Eagle Online on Thursday.
According to the letter of appeal, the payment came into effect when the Corps adjusted the salary of operatives who joined with their Higher National Diploma certificate following the decision of the Federal Government to abolish the HND/Bachelor’s Degree.
It was learnt that the adjustment was made 26 months ago for those in the Bauchi State Command without reflecting it in the salary of the operatives.
A Level 8 personnel, who wished to remain anonymous, disclosed this in the statement to The Eagle Online.
The appeal letter, dated January 7, 2020, was titled: “Unpaid backlog arrears of promoted HND (NSCDC) personnel.”
According to the writer, it has become a norm in the NSCDC to not pay promotion arrears to its personnel as other agencies in the Ministry of Interior do.
The statement said: “Sir, we are humbly appealing to you to intervene over this lingering issue because we were advanced during HND/BSC dichotomy to Level 8 (ASC 11).
“Our colleagues have been receiving their salaries since November 2018 with three months arrears recently.
“Our Level 8 salary was implemented without payment of outstanding arrears.
“Presently NSCDC is owing us 26 months arrears.
“Our faith is unknown regarding this backlog because it has become a norm in NSCDC to not pay promotion arrears to its personnel as other sister agencies in the same Ministry of Interior.
“Our morale is getting low because we feel we are being denied of our right.”
