Kadiri Ikhana, the Head Coach of 3SC FC of Ibadan, on Monday called on the team’s management to motivate the players toward ensuring a better performance in the season.
Ikhana made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos because of the team’s poor performance in the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League.
NAN reports that 3SC occupies the 11th position on the league’s log with 15 points after defeating Heartland of Owerri 2-1 at the Adamasingba Ibadan Stadium in their Match Day 12 fixture.
Ikhana said: “Well we are still working hard to ensure that we end the season on a good note, but financially we are very weak.
“There is need for the management of the team to motivate the players; we require more funds, the players need to happy for them to be committed.
“We are expecting that the state government will come to our rescue and I’m sure that by then we will get the result that we all desire.
“But in spite of that, the boys are trying.
“No salary, many of the players are down with injuries, but we are still coping the best way we can.
“I believe we will sustain this momentum of winning our matches with more motivation.”
The coach appealed to the Oyo State Government to pay the club’s players their outstanding five months salaries.
Ikhana said his players had been honouring their league matches discontented, hungry and unhappy.
He said: “They can only play well if they eat well.
“The players have been going out there to play matches on empty stomach and I am appealing to the government to urgently do something about the unpaid salaries.”
Ikhana said the financial difficulty the club was experiencing was affecting the morale of the players.
