A Non Governmental Organisation, the Feminine Voice, has condemned the continued holding of the Chibok schoolgirls by members of Boko Haram.
The over 200 girls of the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State were abducted by Boko Haram members on April 14.
Feminine Voice, in a statement by its Coordinator, Yetunde Adejumo, condemned the action of the Boko Haram sect, describing it as inhumane.
Adejumo said the action is a violation of all known declarations on human rights.
The statement reads: “It’s over 86 days now that about 276 female teenagers were abducted from Government Secondary School in Chibok town in Borno state, Nigeria. Feminine Voice condemns in strong terms this inhumane act by these Boko Haram insurgents.
“This highly condemnable act is a violent violation of the fundamental human rights of these girls as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution, the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights, the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948 and the International Labour Organisation’s Charter against forced labour.
“We as an organisation are disappointed at the inability of the military to mobilise reinforcements, locate and bring back our girls. This shows incompetence and failure in the government’s system.
“This ugly situation has now exposed the inadequacies and lack of sophisticated equipment on the part of the military despite hundreds of billions of Naira budgetary allocations to defence over the years.
“We strongly demand from President Goodluck Jonathan a clear cut action that will bring back our traumatised Chibok girls and all those that have been kidnapped before and after the Chibok saga. The military and in facts the presidency must walk its talk on ending insecurity in our dear country-Nigeria.”
