The committee set up by the Nigeria Football Federation Executive Committee has given a clean bill of health to almost all the football stakeholders the Alhaji Aminu Maigari-led board clamped certain categories of ban on, recommending to the board to let them off the hook immediately.
In the Committee’s document tagged: “Executive Summary,” made available to The Eagle Online, the committee recommended the lifting of the ban on Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, Chief Victor Rumson Baribote, Barrister Leye Adepoju, Okenwa Chidi Ofor Nwatu, Jide Fashekun and Jareth Tenebe.
While giving the opportunity to others like Harrison Jalla, Chikelue Iloanusi, Ahmed Shuaibu and Tijani Ibrahim to appear at a later date, the Committee noted that their appearance is subject to approval of the Executive Committee.
The introductory paragraph read: “The following recommendations were agreed upon by the members of the committee that was set up to review persons banned by the Nigeria Football Federation.”
The Committee, justifying freeing Baribote, noted: “The Committee deliberated extensively and resolved unanimously to recommend to the Executive Committee that the ban placed on Chief Baribote be lifted with immediate effect.”
On the recommendation on Ogunbobi, the committee wrote: “After deliberating, the Committee members agreed that it be recommended to the Executive Committee that the ban placed on Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi be lifted with immediate effect.”
It was the same recommendation for Tenebe and Okenwa Chidi Ofor Nwatu, as it noted: “The Committee after due consideration recommended that the ban placed on Mr. Jareth Tenebe be lifted immediately with immediate effect on the grounds of giving him a fair hearing.
“The Committee after extensive deliberation recommended that the declaration of step aside that was made against Mr. Chidi Ofor Okenwa from carrying out his function as Chairman Enugu State FA be lifted since the matter upon which the sanction was reached was not a football related matter. The Committee also agreed not to inform Mr. Okenwa that the Nigeria Football Federation cannot apologise to him because his matter is currently be reviewed.”
On Fashikun and Adepoju, the recommendation read: “The Committee is recommending for the unbanning of Mr. Fashikun considering the fact that the process leading to his ban was not transparent. The Committee after deliberating extensively did come to a consensus that it be recommended to the Executive Committee that based on the fact that we have documented prove to show that Barr. Leye Adepoju was actually engaged in a partnership with 3SC FC his ban should be lifted with immediate effect.”
On the absentee banned stakeholders, the Committee noted: “We noted that some of the invited persons that were banned, namely Chikenue Iluanusi, Ahmed Shuaibu, Tijjani Jubrin and Harrison Jalla were absent from the meeting however the meeting acknowledged the fact that excuse were passed to the committee by Jalla through Tenebe and Fashikun apologizing for his inability to honour the invitation since he already scheduled international engagement in Ghana. The Committee agreed to consider their cases at a later date upon approval by the Executive Committee.”
