Eze Duruiheoma, the Chairman, National Population Commission, said the commission had come up with a new draft on National Population Policy for sustainable development goals.
Duruiheoma disclosed this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in an interview in Abuja on Thursday.
He said the prepared draft was ready to be presented to President Muhammadu Buhari for implementation to ensure the growing population of the country was an asset for development and progress.
According to him, if steps in the draft are followed to the letter, it will help in managing the growing population.
The chairman explained that part of the recommendations in the National Population Policy was for every Nigerian to have children according to their capability.
He said: “Doing the right things will help in managing the growing population of the country.
“Though, the attempt to assign four children to a family goes contrary to some religious beliefs and culture of some people in the country.
“But it’s different now because things are changing, people must be educated and enlightened to know how important it is to have the number of children they can carter for.”
