N’Delta group to Amaechi: Your role against Jonathan is unfortunate

The Niger Delta Media-Watch has taken the Governor of Rivers State, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, to the cleaners for allowing himself to be used by opposition parties, governors elected on the platform of opposition parties and a faction of Northern governors to plot the failure of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.
The group was angry at what it termed the the spate of calumny being peddled by those it described as “divisive elements” to bring down the transformational agenda of the President.
Speaking in Asaba, Delta State in the office of Dr. Festus Okubor, the Chief of Staff to Governor of Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State, the leader of the delegation and President of the group, Prince Daniel Ekiugbo, said Ameachi’s alignment with the G7 proponents of the new Peoples Democratic Party speaks volume of his inordinate desire for power.
The group was at the Delta State Governor’s Office, according to Ekuigbo, to formally intimate Uduaghan about their unwavering support for Jonathan’s 2015 ambition, the forthcoming Niger Delta Media Summit and the choice of the governor to formally flag-off the activities heralding the event in Delta State.
He explained that stakeholders would be drawn from across the nine Niger Delta states, including Ondo, Edo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, River, Cross River and Bayelsa.
According to him, there was the urgent need to adequately sensitize and mobilize all Niger Deltans towards supporting the administration of President Jonathan, whom, he said, “is the first Niger Deltan to ascend the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for over 50 years of the country’s independence.”
Ekiugbo further disclosed that the Summit would serve as a better avenue to expose the people of the region to the indices that inform government’s decisions in order for them not to be deceived by enemies of the region who are hell-bent on seizing power and returning it back to where it has been for over 30 years out of the 53 years of Nigeria’s corporate existence.
In Prince Ekiugbo’s entourage were Mr. Austin Edewor (member, National Executive Committee), Dr. Dike Awana (Delta State Coordinator), Jonathan Ganagana (Rivers State Coordinator) and Nneka Ozegbe (Delta State Secretary.)
Okubor, who received them on behalf of his boss, and the Commissioner for Housing, Chief Paulinus Akpeki, reiterated the oil rich state’s unwavering support the President and the Alhaji Bamanga Tukur-led Peoples Democratic Party.
Okunbor noted that Uduaghan and indeed all Deltans are in firm support of Jonathan’s administration and would do everything possible to create the right atmosphere for the President’s Transformation Agenda to succeed, which by implication also translates to the manifestation of Governor Uduaghan’s Three-Point Agenda.
The Chief of Staff assured the team that he would convey the message to the governor as appropriate, while urging them never to relent in their efforts to help mobilize the Niger Delta populace for the overwhelming support of the President.
Akpeki commended the group for deeming it fit to embark on the sojourn to enlighten the people and mobilize support for the administration of the President, whom he described as “an outstanding leader” who had given Nigeria the clear focus it lacked in many years.
He maintained that as a very strong supporter and loyalist of Uduaghan, his support for Jonathan and the Tumukr-led Peoples Democratic Party remains unshaken, even as he expressed optimism that the minor internal disagreements the party is currently witnessing would soon be resolved to keep the party in a solid footing ahead of the 2015 elections.
