NBC gives documents for boundaries demarcation to Ondo, Ogun – DG

The National Boundary Commission has given Atijere and Makun-Omi communities of the Ondo and Ogun states documents for provisional demarcation of boundaries.
Dr. Mohammed Ahmad, Director-General of the commission made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Friday.
He said that in November 2016 the NBC met the two states and the Federal Government and gave them the documents to facilitate the boundary demarcation.
Ahmad said that the commission instructed the officials of the boundary committees of the two states to explain to the locals the significance of the provisional demarcation.
Ahmad said: “We met with the two states and asked them to report back if there was any observation regarding the provisional demarcation that was done.
“As I am telling you, over two months after that, none of the two states have approached us with any comment on what we have given to them.”
Ahmad refuted a report alleging that NBC would carry out a form of demarcation between Atijere and Makun-Omi communities of the Ondo and Ogun States respectively on Friday.
According to him, there is no iota of truth that the NBC has planned any demarcation either provisional or permanent.
He said: “So anybody that is peddling such rumour should find wherever he finds the information. We are not involved in any demarcation.”
Atijere community in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo state had accused its Makun-Omin neighbour in Ogun of a fresh plot to grab a disputed piece of land from it.
In a statement, the Secretary of Atijere, Messiah Ayejuni, alleged that Makun-Omin was spearheading a planned boundary demarcation to achieve its aim.
Atijere and Makun-Omin, which share boundary, have had communal dispute over ownership of the piece of land.
A member of Ondo State House of Assembly representing Ilaje Constituency II, Malachi Coker, told NAN that there were many pointers to the fact that these communities belong to Ilaje Local Government.
According to Coker, Agerige, Ajegunle, Araromi seaside, Obinehin and Atijere communities have always been administered by the Ondo State Government.
