National Assembly panel summons Ndume, Omo-Agege over mace theft

The National Assembly Panel investigating invasion of the Senate by hoodlums on Tuesday summoned Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Senator Mohammed Ndume and the Police over the mace theft at the Senate chamber.
They are expected to appear before the Panel on Wednesday by 11am.
The chairman of the Panel, Senator Ibn’Bala Na’Allah, made this announcement at the ongoing investigation over the invasion of the Senate’s wing by the hoodlums.
The Panel during the investigation grilled the Sergeant at Arms in the chamber when the hoodlums stormed the chamber to take away the mace.
One of the Sergeants at Arms, Mohammed Bello, explained that he wanted to take away the mace from the chamber when he saw what was going on.
But Senator Ndume told him in Hausa language in the presence of Leader of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan; and Chief Whip, Senator Sola Adeyeye, to keep it.
Bello explained that he had taken two steps with the mace in order to leave the chamber when he was told to keep it and immediately returned the mace back to its position.
A member of the Panel, Hon. Betty Apiah, accused the Sergeant at Arms of conspiracy theory about the mace theft in the chamber despite his presence.
Last week, the Divisional Police Officer in the National Assembly, CSP Sulu-Gambari Abdul, blamed the April 18 invasion of the Senate and removal of the mace by hoodlums on internal conspiracy.
According to Abdul, what happened at the National Assembly was an act of internal conspiracy among some security agencies and some lawmakers.
He said: “There should be cooperation between security agencies and the lawmakers but in this case, the attack came from the roof as the senators are not helping security matters.
“On April 16, there was an earlier hint that a group planned to invade the National Assembly and disrupt activities, which called for a build-up of security with two units of mobile police mobilised to the complex.
“However, on April 18, at about 11am, my attention was drawn to a group protesting at the gate, and while I moved to address the group, I was informed that some people were running away with the mace.”
