Hajia Sefinat Ododo, the Wife of the Kogi State Governor, Usman Ahmed Ododo, has advised pregnant and breastfeeding mothers to always prioritise accessing available health facilities to reduce childbirth complications.
Ododo made the call when she visited Kogi Specialist Hospital and Internally Displaced Persons camp on Monday in Lokoja.
The governor’s wife also donated cash gifts and essential supplies to women who recently gave birth at the IDP camps in order to reduce the financial and medical challenges they faced.
Ododo, who was represented by the Deputy Governor’s wife, Margaret Oyibo, restated the need for expectant mothers to access antenatal and postnatal care to ensure their wellbeing and that of their babies.
She reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Ododo’s administration in improving the health indices across the state.
She further implored the women to take advantage of various health programmes and initiatives, including the Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme, aimed at ensuring increased access to healthcare.
She donated food items, cash, and clothing to a nursing mother, Halirat Isah, who had a preterm twins.
The governor’s wife promised to continue to assist vulnerable persons across the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Ododo also visited Gadumo IDP camp in Lokoja, where she donated relief materials to the flood victims.
She empathised with the victims of the flood and stressed the need for immediate support due to the difficult conditions faced by the displaced persons, especially the mothers.
She said: “As soon as I learnt of their situation, I felt compelled to provide urgent assistance, because, as a mother, I understand their conditions.
“I want to reaffirm my commitment to supporting our women.

Also speaking, the Wife of the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hajia Zainab Ahmadu, facilitated with the families for the safe delivery and prayed for God’s blessings and protection upon them.
On his part, the Executive Secretary of the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency, Muktar Atimah, stressed the importance of such visits in giving hope to the needy.
Atima restated SEMA’s commitment to continue to sustain emergency interventions across the state in line with the mandate of the agency.
Earlier, the Chief Medical Director, KSSH Lokoja, Prof. Isah Adagiri, appreciated the governor’s wife for her visit to the hospital and hailed all her humanitarian efforts especially towards women and youths in the state.
Some of the beneficiaries, Halirat Isah and Happiness Abraham, expressed their gratitude to Mrs. Ododo for the gesture towards them and other indigent in the state.
They said the items would go a long way to alleviate their suffering and bring succour to their families.
