A middle belt youths group has described as “alarming” the spate of protracted violent attacks and killings that have become the lots of citizens in the North East and North Central Nigeria for sometime now.
The youth group under the aegis on the United Middle-Belt Youth Movement, has expressed worries over the increased starvation and mass exodus of citizens out of their ancestral homes due to the activities of the dreaded sect, the Boko Haram, in Nigeria.
Addressing journalists in Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Tuesday, the spokesman of the group, Emmanuel Zopmal, appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to take urgent steps to set up camps for people displaced by the insurgents.
“The United Middle Belt Youth Movement encourages government not to sleep on issues raised and promise to work towards seeing an indivisible Nigeria,” Zopmal said.
Zopmal pointed out that they are determined to fashion out issues that will address the challenges affecting their communities with the promise to speak with one voice.
He said they have produced a journal that would help them upgrade the activities, stressing that government should set up camps for displaced people who do not have homes to live.
Zopmal also debunked alleged statements that youths bought nomination forms to some aspirants.
He said the youths have not met their daily needs and could not have raised over N80 million to purchase nomination forms for aspirants.
