Everton’s Ademola Lookman said manager Ronald Koeman is providing him with the belief that he can be a Premier League star.
The 19-year-old Nigerian has made the leap to the top flight from League One just 14 months after his first senior game for Charlton Athletic but netted on his Premier League debut in the 4-0 thrashing of Manchester City.
After a couple more substitute appearances at Crystal Palace and Stoke City, Lookman has subsequently started the last two games against Bournemouth and Middlesbrough.
He said: “If you have that belief from the manager, it gives you even more belief in yourself.
“That raises your confidence and when you step onto the football pitch, you can express yourself.
“It’s something that I will hold onto every single day so I can better myself.”
Last weekend, the Blues squad returned from a five-day warm weather training camp in Dubai and Lookman reveals that the trip has helped him to feel a closer part of the group.
He said: “I got to know them and they got to know me.
“I’ve only just joined in January and I feel like I’m even more part of the team now, which is good.
“It takes some adapting but I’ve been doing that on the training pitch every single day. I’ve adapted well and with time I’ll adapt even more and become better as a player.
“It was very beneficial [for the squad]. We have quite a few fixtures coming up and to be able to perform in those to the highest level, you have to be 100 per cent every day.
“I believe that the Dubai training camp gave us that little bit extra that we needed.”
Lookman is yet to taste defeat in an Everton shirt and with the team unbeaten in the last eight Premier League fixtures, the Blues are hoping to continue their recent good run at home to Sunderland on Saturday.
He is already aware of the impact of playing at Goodison Park and added: “Our home performances have been excellent and the fans have been behind us 100 per cent.
“It give us, as a team, confidence when we step out on the football pitch that the fans are behind us.”
