Brit Johanna Konta has become one of the biggest names to fall at Roland-Garros in 2017 after being stunned by an opponent ranked outside the top 100.
Chinese Taipei’s Hsieh Su-Wei, a former top-25 player but now ranked No.109, delivered a stunning upset on Philippe-Chatrier Court to send the seventh seed packing.
Konta began the match on fire and looked destined for a straight-sets victory when she went up a mini-break in the second-set tiebreak.
Yet Hsieh reeled off seven straight points to send the match into a third set and then held her nerve to close out a tense 1-6, 7-6(2), 6-4 victory in two hours and 15 minutes.
Konta collected just two singles victories during the clay-court season in the lead-up to Roland-Garros and has now fallen at the first hurdle in Paris for three years running.
