President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday marked his fifth year in office as substantive President.
However, the celebration was devoid of merriments as it was “low keyed”.
It was marked with prayers.
Sequel to the death of President Umaru Musa Yar’adua on May 5, Acting President Jonathan was sworn in on May 6 by then Chief Justice of Nigeria; Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu.
President Jonathan had told members of the Federal Executive Council before the commencement of the weekly meeting that today marked his fifth year in office as substantive President.
He told Council members: “Today, we will not say the national prayer.
“Somebody is celebrating birthday so we will offer special prayers for him.
“Two very Godly people will pray – Nebo and Yuguda.
“Do you know the person?”
However, none of them could guess right and Jonathan announced: “On May 6, exactly five years today, I was sworn-in as substantive President.”
Consequently, the Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, and the Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda, said the Christian and Muslim prayers respectively.
