Watford striker, Odion Ighalo, has been beaten to the Premier League’s October Player of the Month award by Leicester City striker, Jamie Vardy, the man who sunk the Hornets on Saturday.
Vardy won and converted the Foxes’ second-half penalty and that strike proved decisive as the 28-year-old scored for the ninth consecutive game, leaving him one shy of equalling Ruud van Nistelrooy’s top flight record of 10 games.
Ighalo netted three times in October, twice in the win over West Ham United a fortnight ago, as well as grabbing the equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth at the beginning of the month.
Inevitably, the Nigerian’s feats were surpassed by Vardy and the England international – who scored five times in four Premier League matches as the Foxes remained unbeaten.
Arsenal pair of Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud, Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne and Stoke City keeper Jack Butland were also nominated for the award.
