Defending champions, Niger Flickers, continued to score goals for fun as they hammered IGP Flickers 5-0 on Tuesday.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the National Hockey Super League which flicked off at the Astro turf hockey pitch of the Package B National Stadium on Aug. 24 is expected to end on September 1.
A total of 15 teams, including eight male and seven female clubs are participating in the league.
They are: Niger Flickers, Police Machine, Kada Stars of Kaduna, Yobe Desert Rollers, Stallions of Lagos, IGP Flickers, Delta Force and Nasarawa Flickers in the male category.
The female teams include: Kada Queens of Kaduna, Yobe Queens, Plateau Queens, Heartland of Imo, Benue Amazons, Rivers Angels and Delta Queens.
The three-time and current champions are so good for the IGP Flickers team that they put five goals past them with ease to record the joint heaviest score line at the tournament.
Niger Flickers quickly went ahead in the 5th minute of the clash through Adamu Kolo, who was scoring his third of the competition.
His goal came from the three consecutive penalty corners they played in the opening stages of the clash.
It became two when Aliyu Jauro stretched fully to divert Adamu Kolo’s attempt from penalty corner into the net in the 11th minute of the clash.
Muazu Shanwalu made it three in the 35th minute, while Umar Danladi scored the fourth goal in the 42nd minute, before Aliyu Abdullahi completed the rout in the 56th minute.
Niger Flickers have now scored a total of 13 goals in just three games after posting tennis-esque score lines 3-5-5 past their opponents at the 2018 National Hockey Super League.
NAN reports that no team has scored more goals from penalty corners than Niger Flickers.
Six of their 13 goals have come from a well-executed penalty corner.
