The Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island, has arrested a suspect who used to drug, rob and throw his victims off moving buses.
The suspect, Suleiman Ibrahim, 36, a father of three and other gang members were recently picked at their hide-outs by detectives from FSARS.
He was arrested with three other members of his gang identified as Azeez Olatunde, 29, Kehinde Fatai, 32 and Kayode Orelope, 42.
The gang allegedly used to pick victims along the road in commercial buses, then suddenly spray them gas like stuff, forcing many to fall asleep or become weakened. Ibrahim said they allegedly know how to spray in such a way that it would not affect him and his gang members.
A police source said the suspects became a guest at FSARS after the Commander in charge of FSARS, Mr. Chris Ezike, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), acting on a tip-off, detailed a team of operatives, led by Inspector Oluwamimo Banjoko to a hide-out.
The hide out is at Mushin, a suburb of Lagos, where the gang leader, Ibrahim was arrested.
Orelope who had earlier worked as a conductor to Ibrahim denied being a member of Ibrahim’s gang.
Ibrahim confessed that for more than seven years, he had operated a gang which used to drug passengers, rob them of cash and valuables before throwing them off moving vehicles.
According to him, he used to carry out his operations along major express ways like Oshodi-Apapa, Mile 2- Orile and Oshodi-Mushin.
Ibrahim revealed that his criminal trade had on two occasions sent him to Ikoyi, Minimum and Maximum prisons.
The suspect said: “I had to stop the trade because of my prison experience. But I came back to the trade recently because I found it difficulty feeding my wife and three children.”
Further interrogation by the Banjoko-led team made Ibrahim to further reveal that he once belonged to a gang which lost three members to police a superior fire power.
“Three of my former gang members, Ganiyu, Rilwanu and Ibrahim (my name sake) were all slain by police bullets in operations,” said Ibrahim.
A police source said a commercial bus, was specially picked for the purpose of carrying out such an operation.
“It is that bus which they used to pick passengers and relieve them of their cash and other valuables.”
Ezike was said to have ordered man hunt for other gangs which intelligence reports revealed were also into this sort of trade. Meanwhile, Ibrahim and his cohorts will soon be charged to court.
