The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has described as barbaric, callous and primitive the alleged attack on the campaign office of the party’s 2014 governorship candidate, Peter Ayodele Fayose, at Adebayo in Ado Ekiti on Monday by the state Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, and his supporters.
According to a press statement issued by the party’s state Publicity Secretary, Pastor Kola Oluwawole, and made available to the press in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, the party said such a naked wanton display of power by a governor had never happened in the history of Ekiti State.
The PDP alleged that Fayemi and his supporters fired bullets at the campaign office.
Oluwawole said when the convoy of Governor Fayemi was driving past Fayose’s campaign office, some of his thugs, led by the security aide to the governor, A. Adesokan, popularly known as Jaruul, released shots at the campaign office without being provoked by four aides of Fayose who were rightly sitting in the inner room and did not know what transpired outside until they had gunshots directed at the office building.
Less than five minutes after the convoy of Fayemi drove past the campaign, about 10 of Fayemi’s alleged thugs in the convoy, among whom were Jaruul, Richard Apolola, Dele Owoju and Tope Longe returned to the campaign office, thinking that Fayose was holding meeting in the office, entered the premises and shattered the building window glasses and vehicles parked within the premises with bullets.
Four aides of Fayose in the office, according to the statement, escaped death by the whiskers.
Acoording to Oluwawole, Fayemi’s thugs who came into the premise were actually sent by the governor to kill Fayose because they were demanding that the former governor should come out of the office and dare them.
The statement added: “This action of Fayemi is very absurd and he should never think that he has monopoly of violence. However, the PDP has appealed to its members to remain calm, law abiding and never take law into their hands.
“Governor Fayemi should not dissipate energy on violence and vanity, rather should save his energy till June 21 when he will be booted out of office.”
