The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, on Tuesday inaugurated three additional Executive Directors on the board of the Federal Housing Authority.
Fashola said the addition was to deepen and strengthen FHA’s ability to deliver on its mandate in terms of housing.
He said: “The first thing that we did was to get the President to approve the inauguration of the new board and that board is a pan Nigerian board.
“It speaks to as much of the diversity of Nigeria in terms of the six geopolitical zones, gender, age difference.
“Also of the diversity of talents but on the back of that, we found it necessary to strengthen the management who run the day to day shift.
“We used to have two Executive Directors, Mr. Moris Ekpenyong and Abdulmumuni Aminu.
“We recommended and the president in his wisdom approved the expansion of the directorate to five from two.
“I hope that they will go on without much ado and diligently and vigorously apply themselves to the task ahead, which is estate development, housing development, maintenance of existing estates, that is very important, and to start getting all of the assets that FHA owns.
“We want to know what FHA is sitting on.
“It is possible that FHA is the richest and biggest housing corporation in Africa.”
Fashola, therefore, welcomed them on board and urged them to deliver on their tasks.
Earlier in his welcome address, Babangida Hussaini, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, said the directorate’s expansion was to enhance professionalism and better efficiency to the board.
According to Hussaini, the ministry wants to ensure that all its agencies are strengthened for optimal performance and expansion of the board of the FHA is key to that strategy.
The newly inaugurated Executive Directors are Hauwa Babakobi, Executive Director, Estate Services; Adamu Kure, Executive Director, Housing Finance and Accounts; and Chinonso Omoke, Executive Director, Project Implementation.
Responding on behalf of the newly inaugurated Executive Directors, Babakobi commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the confidence reposed in them and assured that they would strive to do their best in the sector.
