The Police Force has said notorious kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, is still in the custody of the police.
The clarification is coming on the heels of the report that Evans, who has been held in the holding facility of the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja, was no longer there.
The report did not state that he had escaped.
Rather, The Sun newspaper, which carried the report, said his latest location is unknown.
But reacting to the report, the leader of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team, Assistant Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari, said Evans is still in the custody of the Police.
Kyari wrote: “Members of the public should please disregard the fake news from a major newspaper that the most notorious kidnapper in the history of Nigeria, Evans in our custody has vanished.
“It is a big lie. In accordance with the 90 days remand order from Federal high court, investigation covering 3 countries is in progress. It is a false headline. We cannot joke with the security of Nigeria.”
