The management of the Nigeria Premier League champions, Dolphins of Port Harcourt, has declared missing its midfielder and former junior international, Abduljeleel Ajagun.
The media officer of the club, China Acheru, told The Eagle Online that the whereabouts of the celebrated player is unknown to the management of the Garden City side.
According to the media officer, Ajagun absconded from the camp of the team more than a week ago and has not been seen ever since or made any contact with the club.
“He told a few players he was going to Kaduna but never informed the club officially. Now his phones are not reachable, leading us to believe he may be out of the country on trials of some sorts,” Acheru said.
He added: “It is sad that at this point in Ajagun’s career he is still doing this. Remember he has been suspended by Dolphins before for absconding like this and he was once dropped from the national U-20 team for truancy and absconding from duties.
“Maybe this shows he is a very undisciplined player and the club frowns at attitude like this.”
The media officer added that the technical crew and management of Dolphins are yet to come out with a position and the kind of punishment they will mete out to him but that he certainly will not go scot free.
“We are also going to write to the League body to let them know of this development while we wait for the technical crew and management to decide on what they want to do with him,” he said.
Ajagun joined Dolphins in 2008 from amateur side, El Cruzeiro, and has played in the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2009 as well as the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2011.
He has also been an integral part of the Dolphins team, especially last season when they won the Nigeria Premier League.
