Nigerian-born Dele Alli has been crowned as British Football League Young Player of the Year.
Alli picked up the award after beating off competitions from former colleague, Patrick Bamford (Chelsea on loan at Middlesbrough), and Nathan Redmond (Norwich).
The 19-year-old Academy graduate will soon depart the Dons and take up residence at Tottenham Hotspur and White Hart Lane following their January signing of him.
In his second season as a professional, he has notched up 41 appearances for the club, scoring 16 goals and a hat trick against Crewe Alexandra in the 6-1 hammering of them earlier in the season.
Speaking after winning the YPOTY Football League Awards, Alli admitted it’s been hard to focus on the Dons since signing for Spurs and revealed the January transfer window was a ‘rollercoaster’ of emotions for him.
“I am not going to lie and say it hasn’t been hard because it has,” he said.
He added: “For a few years now there have been rumours of me going places. I’ve been speaking to my agent to see what it is all about.
“Obviously the last year really it has picked up a bit and there has been a lot more speculation about me going other places.
“In this transfer window, towards the end, it was a bit of a rollercoaster, to be fair.
“When it came that I could come to Tottenham, obviously I had a look and I spoke to my agent. We had to think about the manager and all the pros and cons about it.
“We couldn’t think of anything wrong, really, about it – it is the perfect club for me, hopefully. I am just going to do the best I can.”
Alli also finished as runner up on the night in the League 1 Player of the Year category.
