Former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo State has said that the wise counsel of Dr. Dejo Raimi, a renowned medical practitioner and politician, who died on Sunday, would be greatly missed.
Alao-Akala made the remark in a condolence message signed by his Media Consultant, Abraham Ojo, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Ogbomoso, Oyo State on Sunday.
“It is a pity that Raimi’s death came at a time when his wise counsel and meaningful contributions to the political development of Oyo State is most needed,” he said.
NAN reports that Raimi, a Russia-trained medical doctor, died in the early hours of Sunday at an Ibadan-based private hospital at the age of 81.
The Peoples Democratic Party chieftain was said to have been rushed to the private hospital, having complained of uneasiness in the midnight before he died.
Raimi, was Secretary to the Oyo State Government between 1991 and 1993, and he was also a member of the Governing Board of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in 2003/2004.
He was also appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State.
Alao-Akala described Raimi as an “elder statesman and successful man” who combined the challenges of leadership and professionalism without blemish.
“As Secretary to Oyo State Government under the leadership of the late Chief Kolapo Ishola, Raimi demonstrated total loyalty and commitment to the cause of Oyo State,” he said.
He added: “The commitment is reflected in the numerous achievements of the administration.”
The former governor prayed God to forgive the sins of the deceased and grant him Aljanat Firdaos.
He prayed that God should grant the family and political associates of the late Raimi the fortitude to bear the loss.
