Monsignor Gabriel Osu, the Director of Social Communications, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, on Friday described the feast of Corpus Christi as a very important one for the church.
Osu said this in a statement issued ahead of the celebration of the feast by Catholic Faithful coming up on Sunday.
He said that catholic faithful in Nigeria would join others worldwide to mark this year’s Solemnity of Christ the King (Corpus Christi) celebration with several activities.
Osu said: “The feast of Corpus Christi celebrates the gift of the Eucharist, which is also called the Blessed Sacraments, Holy Communion, the Mass and the Lord’s Supper.
“This feast is a very important one for the Church.
“It teaches the doctrine of transubstantiation, namely, that in the Eucharist, the water and the wine really become the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
“It is a day set aside to celebrate and remember Christ’s kingship over all creation as well as remind us that all humankind must submit to Christ’s rule.”
Osu said that in Lagos, the procession would be led by Archbishop Adewale Martins from the Holy Cross Cathedral to St. Gregory’s College, Obalende.
