Buffon leaves PSG after one season

Paris Saint-Germain have revealed that Gianluigi Buffon is leaving the club after a year in France.
The French champions announced on Wednesday that Buffon’s contract will not be extended when it expires on June 30.
In a statement on the club’s website, Buffon said: “Ernest Hemingway wrote that there are only two places in the world where people can live happily: at home and in Paris.
“Today onwards, this will also apply to me: Paris, in some way, will always remain my home.
“Twelve months ago, I arrived at Paris Saint-Germain filled with enthusiasm, welcomed by the incredible warmth of the fans. It was really moving. Thank you, once again, from the bottom of my heart.”
PSG have an interest in signing David de Gea from Manchester United and the Spanish stopper is at an impasse in contract talks at Old Trafford.
De Gea has a year remaining on his present contract but talks have frozen with the Spaniard asking for wages in the region of £350,000 per week.
But the Spaniard endured an alarming dip in form towards the end of the season and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer resisted calls to drop him for No 2 Sergio Romero.
Mistakes by De Gea against Everton, Manchester City and Chelsea led to dropped points that curtailed United’s hopes of finishing in the Champions League places.
Buffon departs PSG having played 25 times in Ligue 1 and winning the French title as well as the Trophee des Champions – France’s equivalent of the Community Shield.
