A member of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Mohammed Ahmed, has been reportedly shot dead by bandits hours after he defected with Governor Bello Matawalle to the All Progressives Congress from the Peoples Democratic Party.
The lawmaker was reportedly killed along the Sheme-Funtua Road in Katsina State.
According to the spokesperson to the state Governor, Yusuf Idris, the deceased lawmaker was the Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation and represented Shankafi Constituency in the state Assembly.
Idris said the lawmaker was shot dead at Yan Kara in Sheme Local Government Area of Katsina State while taking his son to Kano to board a flight to Sudan.
Ahmed defected to the ruling party in Gusau on Tuesday together with Matawalle, who left the PDP with all elected officials in the state, except his Deputy, Mahdi Aliyu.
