The Yobe State Government on Friday lauded female students in the state for exhibiting courage in continuing their education in spite of attacks on schools by insurgents.
The state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, gave the commendation while presenting food and non-food items to students of Government Girls Secondary School, Buni-Gari.
Aliyu, who is also the chairman of the Committee on Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Re-integration of Internally Displaced Persons, gave special commendation to students of the girl’s school in Buni-Gari.
Represented by Alhaji Musa Jidawa, the Secretary of the committee, Aliyu commended the girls for their “courage, determination and steadfastness in the face of the serious security challenges”.
He said the relief materials was to provide succour, identify and encourage them to be more committed to their studies education as peace had now returned to the state.
Eighty cartons of powdered milk, 90 cartons of Milo, 70 cartons of sugar and 300 cartons of toilet soap were donated to the school.
Other items are 798 pieces of lotion, 1,000 pieces of disinfectants and 2,700 pairs of shoes.
The committee also donated 15 wheel chairs to Specialists’ Hospital in Damaturu, the state capital, to boost services in the hospital.
The deputy governor commended the hospital for its effectiveness in treatment of victims at the peak of bomb attacks in the state.
“Government appreciates the commitment of this hospital and the working synergy to serve the people efficiently,” he said.
Dr. Garba Musa, the Medical Director of the hospital, assured the committee that the wheel chairs would be used for the purpose for which they were meant.
Buni-Gari and Buni-Yadi towns in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State had been under the control of insurgents for 14 months, before they were liberated by the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
It was at the peak of the insurgency that Boko-Haram terrorists attacked Federal Government College, Buni, killing students and teachers.
The incident forced the Federal Government to close the institution and transfer the students to other unity schools.
