The governorship election in Bayelsa State opened on a bloody note with four persons already gunned down.
In Oporoma. headquarters of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, an ex-militant, simply identified as Ogunbos, as early as 6am allegedly led thugs to open fire on the local government headquarters to disrupt the distribution of election materials.
The sporadic gunshots led to the death of four persons.
The Joint Task Force operatives in the area intervened swiftly, but not before four persons had been killed.
An eyewitness said gunshots rented the air as the JTF operatives called for reinforcement.
Gunshots, sources said, also came from Brass.
In Nembe Bassambri, reports of deadly attacks by thugs and those said to be in military and police uniforms have emanated.
A member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Princess Ingo Iwowari, was attacked and stripped of all her belongings, including money.
