What looked like sportsmanship and friendship turned sour as Argentine fans stole match tickets, still photo cameras, video cameras and Ipads belonging to members of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club and journalists.
The Argentines, according to Nigerians, were so unruly when the NFSC team arrived the CS Internacione Stadium, Porto Alegre, the venue that hosted the Super Eagles and the Argentine side on Wednesday in Brazil.
The Eagle Online correspondent and other journalists lost their tickets when the Argentines pretended demanded for photographs with them.
Some members of the NFSC lost their tickets also to the Argentine fans who snatched the tickets and ran into the crowd.
The Brazilian Police and Military Brigade stepped in and apprehended two Argentine fans who had snatched still photo cameras and tickets.
The President General of the NFSC, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, while blaming members for not being cautious, lamented the unfriendly manner in which the Argentines acted.
Ladipo said: “Even though they (Argentines) are thieves and are snatching tickets and gadgets, I expect my members to be cautious and keep their tickets very well.
“It affected us greatly during the match because the Argentines that sat where we were in the stadium had our tickets but of course we cannot do them anything since you cannot hold them responsible.
It is also obvious some persons sold their tickets.
This really aided the Argentine fans to be spread across the whole stadium.”
According to a journalist, Felix Okugbe, whose Ipad was stolen while interviewing fans: “My bag was unzipped while conducting interview and when I decided to bring out my working tools, I realized I had been robbed of my working tools.
“I didn’t know my bag was opened.
“These Argentines are thieves.
“When they stole tickets belonging Supporters Club members, I felt they were careless but they (Argentines) are criminals.
“They are jumping about, begging us to have photographs with them but with criminal motives.”
