APC registration delayed in Niger as factions squabble

The reconciliation process and registration of members of the All Progressive Congress in Niger State suffered a setback for the second day as members of warring factions engaged in a chaotic drama, with thugs seen everywhere around the premises of the state secretariat.
The registration of members scheduled to have started on Wednesday will now commence in Niger State on Friday due to crisis that had threatened the exercise in the state for two days.
A national officer of the party, Zakari Dobi, who led a committee to reconcile the warring factions of the party in Niger State, told journalists on Thursday in Minna that the crisis has been resolved and that the exercise will start on Friday.
Dobi appealed to stakeholders and loyalists of the party to be patient while confidence is returning to the leadership of the party in Niger State.
According to him: “My committee is convinced that the warring factions have shielded their swords.
“Now, all hands must be on deck for the success of the party in the state.
“The national leaders have given approval for the use of the party office in Zurimai quarters of Minna.”
It was gathered that the parallel executives of the party operating in the state since the registration of the APC have been dissolved and an all inclusive one headed by Senator Ibrahim Musa constituted.
The chairmen of the disbanded executives, Bako Shettima and Afiniki Dauda, were retained as members of the new executives now endorsed by the national body of the party.
Mallam Salman Yusuf, a stalwart of the party, said the resolution is normal and timely.
Yusuf said: “Now that we have come together to reconcile, we are one family.
“The APC will now have Senator Ibrahim as the party leader with the three chairmen of the parties as members of the executive.
“Our hope is to clinch all positions nationally and at the state and local government levels after the registration process.”
APC stalwarts present at the reconciliatory meeting on Thursday included David Umaru, Abubakar Magaji, Hon. Umar Bago and some governorship aspirants.
