For allegedly defrauding the Delta State Chapter of the Accord Party of N50 million, the state chairman of the party, David Ashikodi, is enmeshed in crisis.
Floodgates of petitions were on Thursday forwarded to the state police command, calling for his arrest and prosecution.
This came barely 10 minutes after executive members of the party in two local government areas of the state passed a vote of no confidence on him.
The petition, co-signed by the party’s Chairman in Ika North-East and Ika South, Richard Iwerebor and Emmanuel Malaghan, dated January 14, 2015, accused Ashikodi of high-handedness and non-accountability.
According to the petition, Ashikodi did not only constitute himself into a sole administrator in the party but embezzled several millions of naira being donations from members, party’s flag-bearers (fees for Expression of Interest by aspirants) and annual grants from the office of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State on Inter-Party Relations.
“He hijacked party membership cards and usurped local government areas’ executive members’ functions. He blatantly refused to give financial account of over N50 million that has accrued to the party since 2010 or even open a bank account for monies received by him. Worst still, since his tenure elapsed last year, he has refused to quit office,” Iwerebor said.
Other signatories to the petition are Paul Onyebuchi (Ika South, ward 7), ChiefFriday Nkata (Ika North-East, ward 6 chairman) and Daniel Ehikwe (Ika North East).
Ashikodi has since switched off his phone.
