African Champions, the Super Eagles, failed to maintain its status on the FIFA ranking as the team dropped three place to 36th position in the world and fourth best team on the continent.
The Stephen Keshi-tutored team still lagged behind Didier Drogba’s Cote d’ Ivoire, who are first in Africa and 17th in the world, while the Black Stars of Ghana and Atlas Lions of Algeria are third and fourth best team respectively.
Nigeria’s drop on the ranking log, released by the World football governing body on Thursday, comes despite the impressive wins over Ethiopia, which saw the Super Eagles qualify for her fifth FIFA World Cup, and also a thrilling 2-2 draw recorded against four-time World Champions, Italy, in a high profile friendly game at the Craven Cottage days back.
Meanwhile, the World Champions, Spain, retained her number spot having amazed 1,507 points while Germany is placed second.
Argentina occupies the third position and Colombia is third.
Portugal moved nine places up to fourth position in the world.
