Edo Poly workers suspend strike

The striking workers of The Polytechnic, Usen, in Edo State have called off their strike following an agreement reached between the management of the school and the state government.
The workers had gone on strike in protest over the non-payment of their two-month salaries, non-remittance by the school management of eight months check-off dues, non-remittance of eight months cooperative deductions and other sundry issues.
In an MoU signed after a deal brokered by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, on behalf of the government, the union agreed “to suspend the strike action on the assurance that government would listen to their yearnings and aspirations as articulated in the Memorandum of Understanding submitted to the office of the Chief of Staff dated 30th November, 2012; and also upon the condition that management has reassured them that steps will be take not to implement the threat of sanction, howsoever, on the striking workers who exercised their right to go on strike.”
The MoU was signed by the acting Rector of the Polytechnic, Comrade Patience Odoimioya; the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic of the school, Comrade Andrews Aghahowa; and the Secretary of the Union, Comrade Matthew Ekhomun.
The workers had downed tools on Tuesday.
