Tinubu can’t sack me on pages of newspapers – Odigie-Oyegun

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has said it was impossible for a National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to sack him from office on the pages of newspapers.
Odigie-Oyegun said this when he spoke with State House Correspondents after a meeting he had with President Muhammad Buhari on Tuesday.
He was believed to have visited Bihari in respect of the outcome of the Ondo State governorship primaries of his party, which led to the face-off with Tinubu.
While Rotimi Akeredolu emerged the candidate of the party for the upcoming governorship election, Tinubu was reportedly bitter that his preferred candidate, Segun Abraham, lost.
This led to a statement by Tinubu that was believed to have confirmed the differences between the two leaders of the APC.
But after the meeting with Buhari, Odigie-Oyegun said his perceived face-off with Tinubu was simply a difference in opinion.
He said: “There is no rift with Asiwaju.
“We have a difference of opinion, difference of perception and I think that is normal.
“Yes, I agree that the nature of the statement was a bit harsh.
“The methods of getting rid of a national chairman, if that is what I will call it, are spelt out in the constitution.
“They don’t take place on the pages of newspapers.
“It is proper for them to meet and they will all meet at the appropriate time.”
On whether the handshake he had with Tinubu on Monday at the launch of a book on President Buhari was a sign of true reconciliation, Odigie-Oyegun said: “Do they know how far back our association goes?
“Do they know that we were in the trenches together in the NADECO days?
“Why can’t people who have mutual respect for each other have different opinions?
“All we had was a difference of opinion.
“Yes, it was expressed a bit harshly, but that doesn’t remove the basic fact that we have worked together for a very long time.”
The national chairman said the victory of Akeredolu at the primary stands except the Independent National Electoral Commission decides otherwise.
He said: “What happened is in the report of the chairman of the primaries committee.
“It is only INEC that can make U-turn on Ondo.”
