Not until when one of Nigeria’s foremost actor, Joseph Benjamin, announced his separation from his wife, so many did not know he was married.
The 32-year-old actor, whose marriage has been experiencing hiccups, finally opened up in an interview with a radio station.
Benjamin said: “About my marriage, it has been going through crises, which I prefer not to talk about.
“That is why I have kept it away from the public to wave off controversies.
“I am no longer in my marriage.
“We are separated.
“I have two wonderful children – a 10-year-old daughter and a seven-year-old son.
“They are an integral part of my life.
“Their mum and I have a very good arrangement on how to balance their lives to make sure that psychologically they are stable and unaffected by our separation.”
The Kogi State born actor made his first screen appearance in a television programme entitled: Tales by Moonlight, where he acted as a homeless child.
His first movie was in 1993.
It was entitled Crossroads.
A graduate of Communication Arts, Joseph got his big break as the co-host of MTN Project Fame West Africa Season II (A reality TV show).
He grabbed the role of a lifetime as the co-star of Mahmood Ali-Balogun’s movie, Tango With Me, alongside megastar, Genevieve Nnaji, in 2011.
Benjamin was declared African Actor of the Year at a ceremony held on November 3, 2012 at the Stratford Town hall, London, United Kingdom for the 17th Afro-Hollywood Awards.
