Cote d’Ivoire’s Yaya Toure on Thursday beat Nigeria’s John Obi Mikel and countryman, Didier Drogba, to the 2014 Glo-CAF African Player of the year award.
The event, held in Lagos, Nigeria, also saw the emergence of three Nigerians as part of the African 11 team.
The African 11, with Nigeria’s Stephen Keshi as coach, has Mikel, Emmanuel Emenike and Goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama as members.
Egypt’s Mohammed Aboutreika beat Nigeria’s Sunday Mba to the African Player of the year based in Africa.
Man City’s new boy, Kelechi Iheanacho, emerged the Most Promising talent.
The Golden Eaglets won the youth team of the year, the club of the year went to Al Ahly FC of Egypt, and the Nigerian Supporters Club picked the fair play award.
