Westgate mall attack: How SSS stopped simultaneous strike in Nigeria

Reports reaching The Eagle Online has it that terrorists planned a simultaneous attack in Nigeria the same day the El-Shabaab struck in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Eagle Online learnt that the terrorists planned striking at the Shoprite shopping mall in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
The attack in Kenya left about 70 persons dead, with several others injured.
A top security source told The Eagle Online that an intelligence report available to the Department of State Security revealed the plot.
It was gathered that a telephone conversation tapped into by the service a few days before the terrorists struck in Kenya, gave away the plot.
The conversation, it was gathered, centered around a plot to launch a joint attack in Nigeria and another country.
It was learnt that based on the report, the DSS increased surveillance on Shoprite and other malls in Abuja.
A source told The Eagle Online that the Director General of the DSS, Ekpeyong Ita, stepped up security in Abuja to forestall the attack.
It was gathered that the development was brought to the notice of the appropriate authorities but the Kenyan Government could not be notified because the name of the country in which the attack was to be carried out simultaneously could not be ascertained.
