Rear Adm. Habila Ngalabak on Tuesday formally took over as the 38th Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
The ceremony held in Apapa, Lagos, Ngalabak’s predecessor, Rear Adm. Sylvanus Abbah, handed over the division’s flag to the new FOC after signing the handing and taking over notes.
NAN reports that highlight of the occasion was the review of parade and march past, while the old flag was lowered and the new one hoisted.
The outgoing FOC, in his brief remark, thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Ibok Ibas, for the opportunity given to him to serve.
He said: “On July 4, 2017, I was given the chance to serve as the 37th Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command and have worked hard to meet the requirements of the CNS strategic directives.
“During my tenure, the command carefully analysed the prevailing contemporary security situation in the country and came up with robust policing duties and sustained internal security operations.
“Other proactive measures taken by the command under my watch included training and development of manpower and enhanced cooperative engagements with relevant agencies.”
Abbah, however, urged other security agencies and naval personnel to give the new FOC the much needed cooperation accorded him for the betterment of the country.
The new FOC said he would continue from where his predecessor stopped, while seeking the cooperation of all personnel, including the media, to move the nation forward.
Present at the ceremony were top military brass, both serving and retired.
