The United Progressive Party has reserved its ticket for the Anambra governorship election, slated for November, for aspirants from the Anambra North Senatorial Zone.
Addressing newsmen in Enugu on Wednesday, the National Chairman of the party, Chief Chekwas Okorie, said the idea was in consonance with the party’s progressive ideological inclination to uphold equity, justice and fair play.
Okorie said the UPP was the only party to extend the gesture to the people of the area to assuage their feeling of political marginalisation.
He said: “The good people of Anambra North Senatorial Zone are now at liberty to put their best foot forward to actualise their political aspiration and agenda in Anambra State.
“We are poised to win the November 2013 governorship election in Anambra convincingly, based on the most credible and decent political campaign devoid of violence and political manipulation.
“Let it be, however, noted that as the tiger we are, it will be risky for any party or persons to attempt to tamper with our party’s legitimate mandate.”
Okorie said the party was out to address cases of political oppression and alienation in the country.
He said: “It is for this and other reasons that UPP immediately upon its registration by INEC resolved to reserve its presidential slot for the South East geopolitical zone for the 2015 presidential election.”
The chairman said the party had completed preparations to participate in the September local government elections in Anambra State.
He said the presentation of the party would commence on Augusut 5 in Imo State and would go round the states in due course.
