The United Progressive Party on Friday said it had merged with the All Progressives Congress.
National Chairman, United Progressive Party, Chief Chekwas Okorie, has urged Igbo of South-East to wake-up from their long political slumber and face reality of the time before 2023.
The United Peoples Party endorsed President Mohammadu Buhari for a second term in office to allow him complete several ongoing projects abandoned in the 16 years of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Okorie disclosed this while speaking with State House correspondents after leading a South-East group to a closed door meeting with Buhari on Friday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
In his remarks, Ameh called on political parties and politicians to put patriotism above other interests, especially in the build up toward the 2019 general elections
Okorie, who made the assertion in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Awka on Wednesday, said those in the vanguard of the anarchic campaign were misguided and did not know its implications.
The party also reversed the suspension on all those that were affected by the suspension announced on August 15.
The UPP presidential candidate, Chief Chekwas Okorie, the statement said, will point the way forward for a new Nigeria
According to the statement: “The Presidential Candidate of the United Progressive Party has emerged. He is Chief (Dr) CHEKWAS OKORIE.
He said the party, which had zoned its presidential candidate to the South East, would be able to stop the marginalisation of the Igbo from presidential elections in Nigeria
“As the man to beat in the November 16, 2013 election, I promise to carry all our people in the state along and ensure even development throughout the state, when, through the grace of God, we assume office in Awka,” Akanegbu said
He said: “The good people of Anambra North Senatorial Zone are now at liberty to put their best foot forward to actualise their political aspiration and agenda in Anambra State
Responding to their apology, Okorie said he was glad that his vindication was coming while he was still alive
I was too sure that a day like this would come against the embattled and estranged All Progressive Grand Alliance’s National Chairman, Victor Umeh, because the founder of the party, Chekwas Okorie, was hounded out by those he brought to the party. Okorie was crying and shouting above his voice, but the powers that felt they were in the party did not care to listen
Okorie had sought the registration of the United Progressive Party, a request that has been endorsed by INEC
