The Taliban terrorist group vowed on Tuesday to continue fighting relentlessly until the end of foreign presence in Afghanistan after President Donald Trump’s announcement of a new strategy toward the Asian country.
On Monday, Trump said the US would expand US military authority in Afghanistan, but would not publicly announce any future military action plans in Afghanistan as part of the country’s new strategy toward Afghanistan.
Taliban claimed that foreign forces had been occupying Afghanistan, adding that the United States should rather think about the withdrawal of troops from the country, the Khaama news agency reported.
The Taliban extremist group released an open letter to Trump, calling for a complete withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan.
The U.S. and its allies launched a military operation in Afghanistan in 2001 following the 9/11 terror attacks. The mission in Afghanistan ended in 2014.
On January 1, 2015, NATO announced its new mission in the country, called Resolute Support, to train and assist the Afghan security forces.
According to NATO, almost 7,000 US troops as well as over 6,000 servicemen from other coalition nations are contributing to the mission.
