Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto on Saturday directed Muslims to look out for the new moon of Dhul-Hijjah 1444 AH from Sunday.

The Nigeria Inter-Religious Council has maintained that there is no religious dominance and superiority in the country.
Abubakar gave the directive in a statement by the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council of Sokoto.
Abubakar stated this during an interactive session with the 2023 Batch A, Stream 2 corps members posted to Sokoto State Monday.
Following this, he has declared Friday (tomorrow) as the Sallah day (Shawwal 1) for Muslim faithful in Nigeria
Abubakar made the call in a statement issued by the Secretary General, Jama’atu Nasir Islam, Dr. Khalid Aliyu, in Kaduna
The message, addressed to the President, Christian Association of Nigeria, was released on Sunday by the NSCIA.
The Sultan made the announcement on Wednesday night, which is equivalent to Yaom Al-Arba Sha’ban 29, 1444 A.H
Alhaji Abubakar gave the directive at a Ramadan Symposium organised by the Sultanate Council in Sokoto on Tuesday.
Abubakar made the call on Sunday in Sokoto in a statement signed by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, the Chairman Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs Sultanate Council, Sokoto.
They told him: “We have come here to ask for your support and blessings; we want to win the coming elections.”
