The national under-23 male team, the Dream Team VI, on Wednesday drew 1-1 with Kano Pillars at the ongoing Glo Premier League Super 4 Invitational Tournament in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that in the match played at the Abuja National Stadium’s mainbowl, Kano Pillars dominated the game mostly.
Newman Doumba had a chance to give Dolphins the lead in the 10th minute, but his shot was saved by Dream Team VI’s goalkeeper, Lawrence John.
It was not until the 23rd minute that Kano Pillars had a chance of their own and began to impose themselves on the game.
But the game swung and Ezekiel Mbah was gifted with a shooting chance, but rather chose to pass the ball and the loose ball was cleared by Kano Pillars’ defence.
The Dream Team VI had another lovely chance to open scoring in the 28th minute, but Adamu Wassein’s left-footed shot from inside the penalty area slid away from target.
Christian Obiozor went on to open scores in the 31st minute to ease the pressure off his team.
Kano Pillars continued to dominate most parts of the game as they had several other chances at goal, but failed to double their lead.
They were left to rue their missed chances in the second half when Dream Team VI were awarded a penalty kick.
This was after their goalkeeper was booked for a foul on Kufre Ebong in the penalty area.
Usman Mohammed stepped up and rolled the ball past him to hand the Dream Team VI the equaliser in the 75th minute.
Dream Team VI now have seven points from two wins and a draw in three games, while Kano Pillars has four points from one win and one draw.
NAN reports that the tournament, which kicked off on Saturday, is expected to end on February 1.
